Triangle UAS President & Founder Taylor Kerby presented on WRALTechWire Executive Exchange panel discussion: “The Future of Smart City Technology” in Wilson
WILSON, NC (NOVEMBER 7, 2017) – Triangle UAS LLC, a provider of innovative unmanned aircraft system services and technology, was represented in a recent technology forum that examined the potential for emerging technology innovations to develop “connected communities” in North Carolina’s large and small municipalities. President and founder of Triangle UAS, Taylor Kerby, joined other Triangle technology executives for a panel discussion during the half-day forum sponsored by WRALTechWire entitled “The Evolution of a Smarter City,” held Nov.1 in Wilson – the state’s only municipality with an all-fiber optic gigabit network.
Triangle UAS provides services, consulting, and training for both rotary and fixed-wing unmanned aerial systems, or “drones,” that are being deployed in several application areas related to “smart city” technologies, including 2D and 3D aerial mapping services for first responders to use during disaster/accident response and search & rescue efforts. In addition, this mapping technology can assist municipal governments for land-use planning and infrastructure inspection services. Another growing application area for North Carolina is the use of UAVs for precision agriculture, including hyper-spectral imaging for crop management, disease control, and yield enhancement.
“The challenge for municipal leaders in creating connected communities, or ‘smart cities,’ is in fostering a true public-private collaboration that enables more citizens to benefit from the new avenues of innovation in the technology area,” Kerby said. “The coming generation of IoT (Internet of Things) devices, combined with 5G wireless connectivity will be able to use high-speed gigabit fiber optic networks like Wilson’s as a pathway for more citizens to have access to faster, less expensive data services, as well as more technology opportunities for residents, companies, and government institutions.”
Triangle UAS also participated in another Wilson-focused technology event by sponsoring a “hackathon” event hosted by Gig CitiesWilson, North Carolina and Westminster, Maryland. The dual-location competition, billed as “Capture the Flag: An Ethical Cybersecurity Hack for Beginners,” was held Nov. 4 in Wilson with the objective of showcasing the power of the city’s gigabit network for work, innovation, entrepreneurship, and community economic development. The event was designed to introduce high school and college-age students to ethical hacking competition. Triangle UAS was a sponsor for the event and provided one of the adult coaches for the student teams.
